Encore Visions publishes independent literary commentary for curious readers. This policy sets the standards for new and revised essays. Older articles are being brought into line with these standards; a source link or a publication date alone should never be treated as proof that an interpretation is correct.
Text comes first
An argument about a literary work should identify the work and the relevant passage, scene, or formal feature. Short quotations should preserve the source’s wording and punctuation. Where editions differ, the article should identify the edition or link to the text used. Poem numbering and page references can vary between editions.
Facts and interpretations
Publication history, biographical details, and statements attributed to scholars require verifiable sources. Our close readings are interpretations: readers may reasonably disagree. An essay should explain how its interpretation follows from the text and acknowledge significant limits or alternative readings. A fictional speaker is not automatically the author.
Sources and quotations
We prefer primary texts, author archives, museums, libraries, scholarly publishers, and established literary organizations. Links should lead to the specific text or discussion that supports a claim. Quotations are limited to what is useful for criticism; readers are directed to the full work rather than given a replacement for it. Availability online does not, by itself, grant permission to reproduce a text or image.
Assisted drafting
AI tools may assist with research organization, structure, or drafting, including the preparation of revised content on this site. AI output is not a source. Quotations and factual claims must be checked against identifiable material. Assistance must not be used to invent reading experiences, qualifications, interviews, citations, or claims of scholarly consensus.
Authorship and independence
The site is edited by a literature enthusiast who reads approximately 100 works of literature each year. That reading habit is background, not a substitute for textual evidence or an academic credential. Advertising does not determine an article’s interpretation. Any paid partnership or affiliate relationship should be disclosed where it affects a recommendation.
Corrections and revisions
Please report a suspected error through Contact, including the article address, the passage concerned, and supporting evidence if available. Substantive corrections should be explained in the article. A revised date means the content changed; it does not change the original publication date of the literary work discussed.
